If I’m coming from abroad, which city in Bolivia should I arrive in?

While Bolivia has several international airports, we recommend that participants arrive in La Paz, Bolivia, as it is the closest major city to Uyuni. From there, you will have multiple options to reach Uyuni.

El Alto International Airport (LPB) in La Paz, Bolivia, receives international flights from several airlines. The main carriers operating routes to La Paz include:

  • Boliviana de Aviación (BoA): Offers international flights to La Paz from various cities.
  • LATAM Airlines: Provides flights from Santiago de Chile to La Paz.
  • Avianca: Connects La Paz with Bogotá.
  • Paranair: Operates flights from Asunción, Paraguay, to La Paz.
 
  • Option 1: Flight to Uyuni (Fast & Comfortable)
    From La Paz, there are direct flights to Uyuni operated by Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), with a flight duration of approximately 1 hour.

  • Option 2: Bus to Uyuni (Economical & Overnight)
    Overnight buses depart from La Paz to Uyuni, operated by companies such as Todo Turismo, Panasur, and Cruz del Norte. The journey takes 10 to 12 hours.

Option 1: Flight to Uyuni (Fast & Comfortable)

  • Ticket price: Approximately $300 USD (includes one checked bag and one carry-on).
  • Bike transport: Considered as additional cargo, with the cost depending on the total combined weight of all baggage.
  • Flight duration: 1 hour.

📌 NOTE: You can add your flight ticket as an add-on to your registration, ensuring availability (as flights are in high demand) and guaranteeing your arrival on time to fully enjoy the experience.

Option 2: Bus to Uyuni (Economical & Overnight)

  • Ticket price: Around $45 USD per person (does not include baggage).
  • Travel duration: 10 to 12 hours.

Bolivia classifies countries into three groups to determine visa entry requirements:

Group I: Citizens of these countries do NOT require a tourist visa to enter Bolivia.

Group II: Citizens of these countries REQUIRE a tourist visa to enter Bolivia.

Group III: Citizens of these countries REQUIRE a tourist visa, but must first request approval from the corresponding Consular Office and the Bolivian General Directorate of Migration (DIGEMIG).

Do I Need Health Insurance?

Yes, international health insurance is mandatory for all participants.

Additionally, your registration (for both participants and companions) includes local accident insurance with coverage of up to $15,000 USD. 🚴‍♂️✅

Altitude sickness can affect anyone, and symptoms vary from person to person. However, there’s no need to worry! Our team is experienced in handling these situations.

Both the hotel and support vehicles are equipped with oxygen, and we have access to nearby medical centers if needed. Your safety and well-being are our priority! ⛰️🚴‍♂️✅

What’s the weather like in Uyuni in October?

In October, the weather in Uyuni is mild and dry, with moderate temperatures and mostly clear skies. This is one of the best months to visit the Salar de Uyuni, as there is very little chance of rain and optimal conditions for outdoor activities like gravel cycling.

Typical Weather Conditions in October:
